Laboratory Technician

Summary:

This position reports to the Laboratory Manager. The tasks of this individual will include, but is not limited to: 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all login procedures, both manual and electronic, of samples delivered to the laboratory, ensuring proper labeling and paperwork.
  • Sub-sample a variety of waste materials, process and product samples and follow proper analytical methods required for compliance in accordance with established guidelines and training.
  • Conduct sample analysis on sub-samples per methods and procedures established by training and knowledge of analysis plans. Conducts QA/QC sample analysis and calibrations.
  • Ensure proper written and electronic documentation of all test results prior to approval and completeness of summarizing data. Notifies appropriate supervision or staff member of completed analysis.
  • Prepare reagent solutions, standards and other laboratory solutions as directed by supervisor or lead technician per guidance and training.
  • Maintenance of analytical equipment and documents in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance.
  • Perform periodic audits of analytical logs and data to ensure regulatory compliance for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform lab housekeeping and sample management duties to ensure a clean and safe work area.
  • Label lab waste containers and properly dispose of lab waste per established guidelines.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Associate’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent laboratory work experience preferred
  • Prior laboratory work experience preferred

Experience with the following instruments/tests preferred:

  • Gas Chromatography (GC)
  • Karl Fischer Titration (KF)
  • pH Determination
  • Flash Point Determination
  • Specific Gravity (SPGR)
  • Bomb Calorimetry
  • Halogen Titrations

Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass medical examination and pre-employment drug screening.
  • DOT, RCRA, and HAZCOM training is a plus, but not required for employment.  Training will be provided annually to all employees.
