How you will impact AMF:

As an AMF Mechanical Engineer you will create and support current and new machine designs which help bakeries operate at the lowest cost with the highest quality. AMF machines help our customers make new and interesting products; thus driving their growth and providing excellent food at an affordable cost to the end consumer. Engineers advise sales and others in the field on the capabilities of AMF equipment so customers can choose the right machine for their application. They also learn from experienced AMF engineers and eventually share and teach others about the trade of engineering at AMF and how it drives value in a global manufacturing company. Additionally, they support and teach assemblers and others who interact with AMF machines about the machine, the design, how it works, and how to troubleshoot so our teammates can grow as teammates and individuals. Lastly, but not in the least, AMF teammates are encouraged to participate in local sustainability and community activities.

Job Description:

  • Create machine models using 3D software (Solid Edge) which meet customer needs and specifications including sizing, material types, and selection of commercial components.
  • Assemble complete and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for the machine/system design to be released into the ERP system to drive part purchases.
  • Ensure designs meet cost targets for the product lines, as well as the highest standards of accuracy and machine performance.
  • Create accompanying drawings/prints for manufacturing components of the machine.
  • Compile and apply feedback from assemblers, installation technicians, and customers regarding the functionality of the machines.
  • Maintain familiarity with bakery sanitary design standards and ensure machines designs are compliant
  • Utilize CTO tools to create designs efficiently and accurately
  • Perform cost/margin analysis post-machine completion to identify cost reduction opportunities; Apply "VAVE" concepts as needed to reduce machine costs through redesign
  • Support field issues and determine resolutions to problems
  • Support the assembly team prior to, during, and in the final states of the checkout on active projects.
  • Learn and understand the business, competitors, and advantages to Flex equipment
  • Visit bakeries, provide onsite troubleshooting, and discuss with operators the advantages and opportunities for AMF machine designs
  • Maintain and provide updated content for technical documents
  • Assist the Applications Engineering and Equipment Product Managers during the scope phase of a potential project
  • Assist sales with custom design solutions and custom quote estimating

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. A combination of an AA degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree
  • Significant machine/mechanism design experience
  • Experience with AC Drive Motor, Servo Motor design and calculations
  • Ability to understand, design, and document pneumatic control systems
  • Experience with technical documentation, including equipment manuals and bulletins
  • Experience with equipment and plant layout design
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, proficient in any 3D modeling applications (i.e., Solid Edge/Solid Works/Inventor)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel with basic skills for data analysis
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills
