We are currently seeking to add a Lead Geologist/CPT department lead to our site investigation/CPT team for a full-time position in our Calgary office.

About the Role:

The Lead Geologist / CPT Department Lead plays a key leadership role within Global Engineering and Testing’s Site Investigation team. This position is responsible for overseeing Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) operations, leading a team of technicians, and delivering high-quality field investigations and technical reporting. The role blends hands-on fieldwork with office-based analysis, project coordination, and departmental leadership, ensuring investigations are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest industry standards. Working closely with engineers and project managers, the successful candidate will contribute technical expertise, mentor team members, and support the successful delivery of geotechnical projects across Alberta. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage and lead a team of technicians in the CPT department. 
  • Carry out drill-based site investigations which include, but are not limited to soil logging during drilling, drill supervision, and performing electric cone penetration testing (CPT). 
  • Analysis of CPT/Dilatometer data. 
  • Preparation of technical reports. 
  • Oversee departmental budgets, schedules, and resource allocation. 
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure successful project delivery. 
  • Ensure quality control and adherence to industry standards within the department. 
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members as needed. 

Requirements: 

  • B.Sc. or higher degree in geology, earth sciences, or related engineering discipline. 
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in CPT data acquisition and drill-based field investigations 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. 
  • Eligible to register as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA 
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • A valid AB driver’s license with a clean driving record and a vehicle. 
  • Willingness to travel to job sites within Alberta for short trips. 
  • Interest in both field and office work. 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience working on projects for clients in the construction industry 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills 
  • Ability to manage time effectively and multitask on multiple projects at once.
