Description

NSF’s Oakdale site is home to the UK’s largest independent water fittings and materials testing laboratory, where we assess a wide range of products that come into contact with drinking water. We are looking for an Analytical Chemist, to support our analytical testing operations by applying scientific expertise to varied testing projects - from sample preparation and extraction through to data review, troubleshooting and reporting.

 

Working closely with the Laboratory Manager, you’ll play a key role in maintaining high testing standards, stepping in to support day-today operations when needed, while supporting ISO/IEC 17025 compliance, and ensuring our clients receive accurate, reliable results that help protect public health.

Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to:

  • Support the Laboratory Manager in monitoring daily lab operations and deputise when required

  • Assist in signing laboratory test reports issued to clients and regulatory bodies

  • Carry out analytical testing activities across a wide range of test methods used within the lab

  • Perform sample extraction, preparation and instrument operation, including maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Review analytical data, compile reports for external clients, and respond to technical enquiries.

  • Support monthly forecasting, AQC checks, KPI generation and quality system compliance.

  • Write, update and review SOPs, and help maintain calibration schedules (Qualer)

  • Work closely with Account Management, Technical Review and scientists to plan and prioritise testing

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and identify opportunities to optimise workflow efficiency

  • Support implementation of NSF’s global Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

  • Ensure risk assessments and safe working procedures are up to date and adhered to



Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Chemistry or a related scientific field, or strong equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 or other regulated laboratory environment.

  • Solid understanding of analytical chemistry and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., BS6920).

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with analytical instrumentation.

  • Confident communicating with colleagues and clients; proficient with Word and Excel.

  • Prior experience in water, materials testing or other regulated industries (advantageous but not essential)

  • Experience in method development, validation and optimisation (advantageous but not essential)
